The little black dress certainly is a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. However it’s summertime, which means it’s time to brighten up the little black dress with the little white dress! White dresses are classy and clean, making them perfect for a day at the office or a day at the beach.

Day or night, the white dress offers a breezy elegance without looking over-the-top, plus it looks great against any skin tone. Take a look at some options that will help you find just the right one.

For work:
• Choose a white dress that is functional, yet professional. One that hits the knees is better than a long flowing one (which may make you look like you’re headed to the beach).
• Less is more — save the ruffles and sashes for outside work.
• A dress with sleeves as opposed to one without may be more work appropriate, or you could don a colorful cardigan to go with a sleeveless dress.
• Because anything white has sheer tendencies, you don’t want to have a see-through mishap. To be safe, choose a dress with a built-in slip. The slip will give the dress a full-bodied look, too!
• Choosing a dress with hidden pockets can offer much needed practicality.

For a shopping spree:
• Since you’ll likely be walking around a lot, a long, sleeveless dress will be a much cooler option.
• Linen will also keep you cool under the sun and has a comfortable, sleek feel.
• To dress it up a bit, tie a sash or wear a belt for a look that is relaxed yet put together.

For a weekend play-date:
• Comfortable cotton in a looser fit is key when you need to be able to move around.
• Racer-back straps are sporty and fun, not to mention great for  outdoor activities.
• Pleats are a girly, fun accent with a nice, flowy feel.

For a night out:
• Now is the time to dress up the little white dress. But take care not to overdo it! A pair of golden gladiator sandals or heels with a boost of color add some oomph to the white dress.
• Chunky stone jewlery or some gold or silver bangles look great with white and are noticeable in just the right way.
